# OpenClaw

> Connect OpenClaw to the public Metatron documentation MCP through the Control UI or the openclaw mcp CLI. Searches published docs only.

<Warning>
  This connects OpenClaw to the **public documentation-search MCP**. It does not connect OpenClaw to any private Metatron tool, file, or inbox. See [Security model](/security-model).
</Warning>

**Syntax source:** the public OpenClaw MCP documentation (`docs.openclaw.ai/tools/mcp` and `docs.openclaw.ai/gateway/config-extensions`, retrieved 2026-10-10). **Live connection: NOT TESTED**, because the published endpoint is not deployed yet.

<Note>
  The public commands below (`openclaw mcp add`, `openclaw mcp doctor`) are newer than some installed builds. Run `openclaw --version` first. If `openclaw mcp add` is not listed under `openclaw mcp --help`, update OpenClaw before following this guide. The build tested during the preparation of this site (2026.3.31) did not include these subcommands, so they are not verified on that build.
</Note>

## Prerequisites

* OpenClaw installed, with an `openclaw mcp` command group that includes `add` and `doctor`.
* The published site at `https://docs.metatronscribe.com` returns its index at `/llms.txt`.

## Option A: Control UI

1. Open the OpenClaw Control UI and go to the MCP servers section.
2. Choose **Add server**.
3. Enter the name `metatron-docs` and the URL `https://docs.metatronscribe.com/mcp`. Set the transport to Streamable HTTP.
4. Save. Then use the server row to enable or disable it. Use the scoped editor for timeouts and tool filters.

## Option B: CLI

Add the server, exposing only documentation search:

```bash theme={null}
openclaw mcp add metatron-docs \
  --url https://docs.metatronscribe.com/mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --include '<search-tool-name>'
```

Replace `<search-tool-name>` with a name your session reports. The public docs show globs such as `'search,read_*'`. Public pages need no credentials, so do not add a token.

Verify that the server answers:

```bash theme={null}
openclaw mcp doctor metatron-docs --probe
```

The public docs state that saving a definition proves nothing about reachability. The probe is the check that matters.

## The configuration this writes

The same server, written directly under `mcp.servers`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcp": {
    "servers": {
      "metatron-docs": {
        "url": "https://docs.metatronscribe.com/mcp",
        "transport": "streamable-http",
        "enabled": true,
        "connectionTimeoutMs": 5000,
        "requestTimeoutMs": 20000,
        "toolFilter": {
          "include": ["<search-tool-name>"]
        }
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## Inspect the connection

```bash theme={null}
openclaw mcp status --verbose
openclaw mcp probe metatron-docs
```

`status` is a configuration-only summary. `probe` reports the live capabilities. Use `openclaw mcp reload` after a change if hot reload is not enabled.

## Verify it works

Start an OpenClaw session that uses MCP tools, and ask a question the documentation answers. A correct answer names the three Metatron interfaces.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| `doctor --probe` cannot connect | Site not deployed, DNS not propagated, or a low timeout | Open `https://docs.metatronscribe.com/llms.txt` in a browser. Raise `connectionTimeoutMs`. |
| Authentication error | A header or token was configured. Public pages need none. | Remove the header. |
| No tools after filtering | The include list matches no discovered name | Run `openclaw mcp probe` and copy the exact names. |
| `openclaw mcp add` is not a command | The installed build predates the public docs | Update OpenClaw, then retry. |

## Remove

Use the **Remove** action on the server row in the Control UI, or delete the `metatron-docs` entry from `mcp.servers` and run `openclaw mcp reload`. The public docs describe the row action; they do not document a remove subcommand.

## What this integration cannot do

* Read Metatron's governance files, inbox, or seed-target files.
* Call any operational Metatron tool.
* Write to the documentation or to any system.
